Roof Remodeling - Different Roofing Styles

Selecting the Right Roofing Style

Selecting the right look for your roof is an important but often overlooked consideration. Your roof is designed to last for 30 or 40 years and some roofing systems are now designed to last a lifetime!  You want to choose a style you will enjoy and that complements your home for a very long time.

We have a variety of colors and styles to choose from by CertainTeed ™ – a leader in roofing systems.  These roofing materials will not only protect your home from the harshest weather, but they will also make your house look great!  Whether you prefer a simple, timeless look, or something more decorative, Francis Harvey & Sons can guide you through your choices and simplify your selections process.

Colors

Colors matter when you are trying to create a certain design style for your home. Maybe you want to match a traditional historical look, or opt for more reflective shingle palette choice.  CertainTeed™ has a wide array of color selections - from solid black to red and more!

Styles

The first thing to consider when choosing a roofing style is the pitch of your home’s roof.  A roof’s pitch affects the way you see its colors. As a starting point, look at actual houses where the house and roof color combinations are similar to what you are considering.

Please see below for information and photos of today’s most popular roofing types. Whether you prefer a simple, timeless look, or something more decorative, Francis Harvey & Sons can show you your choices and guide you through your selections process.

3-tab asphalt shingle

The 3-tab asphalt shingle is designed for a classical look for homeowners who demand outstanding performance and traditional appeal.  When viewed on a roof, 3-tab shingles have a distinguishable, repetitive pattern. This type of roof style offers affordable and basic protection.

Architectural roofing shingles can give a three dimensional look to the roof.  These shingles are very popular because of their durability and beauty.  These high –end shingles are heavier than other types of roof shingles and come in various colors, patterns and textures.

CertainTeed’s Landmark Solaris® shingle is one type of a dimensional roof shingle available. Itis energy efficient, and gives you the beauty of traditional shingles. The shingles are made ofasphalt, but contain special granules that can reflect the sun, keeping roofs cooler by up to 20percent and is eligible for up to $1,500 in federal energy tax credits.

For houses with steep roofs, consider a slate look to lend a distinctive and elegant look to your home. Some styles even look like they were made by hand!  Composite slate roofs also offer the strength and durability to last.

Shake roofs that are made from composite material are now available, and offer thickness and rustic colors for homeowners, who want the look of wood. Some styles have the hand-split look of cedar and the durable dimension of laminate technology.

Rubber roofing is a popular choice for homes with flat roofs. This type of roofing can be very effective in protecting your home from leakage and water damage.
